Excellent fix for smelly shower drains
Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2018

I had a sewer gas smell coming up through the master bedroom shower drain in the second floor of the house. And yes, this shower does have a proper trap system. Bought this guy, problem solved. You do need to push it about 2 inches down into the drain pipe. This allows the water pressure on top of the trap to build up to allow the valves in the trap to allow more water to flow through. If you don’t do this, you would have standing water in the shower pan. I have a few different brands and this one works the best. Well worth the money.

used to create drain for lid of sump pump
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2018

Used to create drain for lid of sump pump. The trap seal fits into a piece of 2″ PVC pipe inserted into the bottom of a 6″ 2″ or 3″ floor drain The PVC pipe ideally is 6-12″ in length and the trap seal is located towards the bottom of the PVC pipe. The sump pump is located at the lowest point in the house. I drilled a 3″ hole into the lid of the sump pump lid but without a seal both air and bugs would enter the home.

Great quick fix

I was pretty surprised by the cost of this thing – but if it works as advertised it’s just what I needed. I cut off an extra vent to use as a floor drain for my HVAC system. I stuck this thing in a few inches down and so far so good. It lets the small condensate drip through without allowing any gas up. I can’t imagine this being able to handle a sink or shower though, i think it would slow the drain down quite a bit.

This is a Problem Solver
Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2018

While these may be a touch expensive, they have been a true problem solver in my house. The in-floor traps of my older home did not function too well. However, after the less than a minute installation of 3 of these (one for each floor drain) my issue of sewer gas smell was completely resolved. The one way valve has worked well for the past few months. They are a bit on the pricey side, but for the construction quality, I have to use the clichéd term. “You get what you pay for”.

Clever product to keep sewer smell in floor drain and allows water to flow freely into drain
Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017

This waterless trap is very easy to install in 4 inch pipe. Just make sure you have the correct size and slide right in. Install takes less than a minute. Have multi-family home that has floor drain in utility room. I had the drain snaked out previously but could not figure out where the smell in the room was coming from. Talked to a plumber who said he could not help me since it was not plastic pipe that he could attached to. Another plumber wanted $350 to try to fix. Finally found this product and love it. Smell has gone away right away. I tested the trap unit in a utility tube before I installed to see how it worked. You could run water thru the top at full blast and water will drain out thru it. When you turn it upside down and run water on the unit it repels the water from coming thru. Clever and great value. Thinking may need to replace it ever 5 years or so since it is rubber and will come in contact with floor water, dirt, and keeping the sewer gases in the sewer.

No more stink!
Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2017

Next to us townhouse has a stinky basement shower drain. Every time one of the 3 toilets from anywhere in the house flush, stinky fumes would come out of the drain. My investigation tells me a working p trap was installed and there was no evidence of clog or blockage in the system. Stink is most probably the result of an inefficient vent system in the drains. More costly solution was to install another vent = $$. I stumbled upon this product while researching solutions for my problem. Installation took less than 5 mins. Pop the drain, make sure drain pipe is clean, drop this device into the pipe and push to make sure the rubber “fins” provide a good seal around this device and the inside wall of the pipe. Ran the shower full blast for around 5 mins to see whether water pools on the floor which may indicate draining is slowed down. Surprisingly, no change. So I filled up a bucket of water about half way and dumped everything into the shower floor while shower was still running. Water initially pooled on the floor but was gone in a few seconds. Yehey! There’s no significant slowing of water draining! Before I installed this device, I read reviews that say draining slowed down to the point of water pooling on the floor while taking a shower. That was my biggest concern. Almost everybody who buys this product kept the unit but had that issue of slow draining. For those having problems with slow drain with this product, try pushing the device deeper into the drain. That will help build more water pressure between this device and the water on the floor. Also, it may help using a shower head that is one of those water efficient kind rated for 1.5 gallons per minute. Very happy to get rid of that annoying stink!

Works instantly
Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2017

Seemed a bit pricey but worth every penny. I had purchased my first house and discovered a sewage smell after flushing the toilet. The basement had 3 drains, so I added water assuming the trap dried up. This did not solve the problem. Looking around it appeared the third drain had fresh concrete around it and is the only one that is covered. Did my homework and found out that the other 2 drains were open and was not tied into the new drain, which had the only trap. So I capped off the one drain that served no purpose. Upon opening the package I was less then confident that this will work, but set the diaphragm and installed it in the remaining drain which the a/c drained into. It has been 2 weeks and I have not smelled anything since installation.

His solution was to put a wet rag over the drain when we were done if we really thought it was that bad. Anyway
Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2017

I rent a newly remodeled house and had sewer gas backing up into the shower every time someone used it. My landlord (who is a plumber himself!) basically refused to believe that he installed anything wrong. Well clearly he didn’t install the P trap or vent right. His solution was to put a wet rag over the drain when we were done if we really thought it was that bad. Anyway, this thing works perfectly. It sits flush with the drain. The water drains a TINY bit too slow, but unless I take a 15+ minute shower it’s a non issue for me. My shower doesn’t have a “water saving” head as far as I know. It’s a totally regular water pressure, at least based on my experience in 30 years of showering… The reviews here that say “don’t use this in a main shower” are way, way overblown. I almost didn’t order this because of them, but I’m glad I did. I still think fixing the P trap or vent would be the proper solution, but it’s not my house. Plus, this is a lot easier than tearing up the tile shower to inspect and fix the trap.

Quick and easy install.
Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2017

Bought this for use in a commercial building in which one Tenant complained of sewer smells that were intermittent. After having the system smoked and camera inspected, by a highly qualified company and finding no problems I decided to order these as well as place charcoal filters on the waste stacks to cover all my bases. I will likely not know for months if these work because of the nature of the problem, but in theory it makes a lot of sense, so gave them a shot. Installation could not be easier, 5 minutes (or less) to install both. Basically took the three screws off the top strainer and slid these into place, then put strainer back on. Tested water flow by running a gallon of water through them. Seemed to handle that well. Keeping fingers crossed for now, but for the price, the PR value of the Tenant seeing me install and test them was priceless.
