Product still holding up
Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2023

I waited for quite awhile to write a review to make sure the product is still holding up. Its been almost 16 months and still going strong. I purchased this because during a recent bathroom remodel I did not have enough space to install a drain trap when I plumbed in a new shower pan. This guy did the trick to keep sewer gasses from filling the room. It more than keeps up with the flow from the shower. As others have said, you must get this shoved a good ways (3 inches or more) into the pipe so that the weight of the water will open the valve at the bottom. I have had to clean it twice since installation for hair clogs but once reinstalled it works as new. Don’t hesitate to buy if what you need it for is a shower drain.

No more smell

I installed this 3 years ago. One of the best buys I have made. It’s installed in a shower that is used daily. You will need to pull it and clean it after a few years. I’m buy a spare so when I pull to clean, I just install the new one. Then clean the old one to use when cleaning is necessary again.

Works for now

I have a drain that backs up and floods our hvac/water heater closet whenever we run our laundry machine, due to improperly installed plumbing, and this helped fix the issue. I have a feeling this is just a temporary fix, but compared to the thousands of dollars I would need to break concrete and properly install new plumbing, I’ll take it.

I did a test run and it all kept the water down. It did look like a tiny bit of water broke through the seal, but nothing came out of the drain. The little bit that did break through went back down the drain, and presumably helped keep any additional water from coming up. If it ends up lasting a while, I will gladly buy another one when it fails/as a precautionary measure for when we do fix the plumbing.

Works!

I bought this for an old house I am renting that doesn’t have a trap in the shower drain. The drain stank and I think it may have been causing allergic reactions. Since installing this guy, smell is gone and my eyes stopped itching! It also doesn’t cause a noticable change in how fast the shower drains. Great device and worth every penny.

If you own an older home you may need to modify the trap

I ordered the 3 inch traps for old cast iron drains that are 2 3/4 ID. I trimmed the first gasket off and after applying valve grease, was able to gently coax it into place using an old 2×4 to span the diameter and tapping it with a hammer. So far, so good…

No more stink!

New to us townhouse has a stinky basement shower drain. Every time one of the 3 toilets from anywhere in the house flush, stinky fumes would come out of the drain. My investigation tells me a working p trap was installed and there was no evidence of clog or blockage in the system. Stink is most probably the result of an inefficient vent system in the drains. More costly solution was to install another vent = $$$.
I stumbled upon this product while researching solutions for my problem. Installation took less than 5 mins. Pop the drain, make sure drain pipe is clean, drop this device into the pipe and push to make sure the rubber “fins” provide a good seal around this device and the inside wall of the pipe. Ran the shower full blast for around 5 mins to see wether water pools on the floor which may indicate draining is slowed down. Surprisely, no change. So I filled up a bucket of water about half way and dumped everything into the shower floor while shower was still running. Water initially pooled in the floor but was gone in a few seconds. Yehey! There’s no significant slowing of water draining!
Before I installed this device, I read reviews that say draining slowed down to the point of water pooling on the floor while taking a shower. That was my biggest concern. Almost everybody was saying this product kept the stink out but had that issue of slow draining. For those having problems witn slow drain with this product, try pushing the device deeper into the drain. That will help build more water pressure between this device and the water on the floor. Also, it may help using a shower head that is one of those water efficient kind rated for 1.5 gallons per minute.
Very happy to get rid of that annoying stink!

Easy install, quality product

Got the product today. The 2″ version fit perfectly inside of 2″ PVC pipe. It drains well. I installed it 2″ below the floor surface, pushing it down with the end of a caulk tube. I was a little worried I might push it too far and it would fall out of reach. To prevent this I cut a slice of the same 2″ PCV pipe, about 1/4″ long, giving me a ring. I cut about 3/4″ out of that ring, so I could spring it together and fit it inside my 2″ drain. I pushed it to a depth I wanted, 5″ in my case. I then used a small wooded stick (think chopstick) to drizzle a bead of PVC cement to glue it in place. When mounting the valve, I pushed it to a depth that was about 1/4″ above my ring. I used a tiny amount of silicone grease.
I will see how they function over time, but they look like quality items. I installed three of them.

Green Drain 4 in. Waterless Trap Seal-69040

I just bought 6 more of these for a second house. I installed 3 in my other house 3 years ago, so this review is a long term review.

These are a great product that do what they are advertised to do. They prevent air and fumes from escaping your drains. These completely changed my basement which stunk of rotten drains and had flies. These corrected my problems 100%. After 3 years they have collected lots of dirt and particles. I tend to pour clean water down them on a regular basis to keep the seal clean.

One of them is in the drain that my AC drips into. This seal tends to get some sort of ooze growing on it, and I always question if it is still sealing correctly, thinking the ooze might hold the seal open. I clean this one by hand with rubber gloves to make sure it seals.

So far so good after 3 years of use.

Hot Tips: Put Vaseline on the outer rings of the seal body, so it will slide into the pipe easier. Also makes it 50x easier to remove it if you have to. When removing, do not pull on the plastic crossbar. Instead reach your fingers through the seal and pull the main body from underneath (hands back to back with finger tips pointed toward pipe wall).

We have been dealing with odors coming from the shower for the longest time. It wasn’t until I needed to find a solution because guests were staying in our condo. I started the search and this device was like magic, so easy to install and did the trick instantly. No more odor coming up from the drain.

Only first day, but fit like a glove!

Perfect fit! Trying to keep large black spiders from crawling out from under our cement slab & drain tile lines into our basement. We also have a radon mitigation system installed. They company that did the work was lazy and only installed the fan and exhaust line for the radon system. They failed to seal the expansion joints and install proper one-way valve drain covers. Thank you for making this so easy!
