RESTAURANT DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

an Overlooked Source of Serious Health and Safety Risks

When improperly maintained Restaurant Drains Allow the potential spread of Pathogens, Pests, Odors, and Toxic Gases to spread throughout your Restaurant.

How it Works

Bar flies are attracted to sugary substances, as well as sticky and moist areas. Common areas found are behind the bar are beer taps / dried beer, fruit, drains, pipes, cloths, mops, rags, and sweet fruity liquors. Fruit fly larvae can only survive in moist, decaying matter. Each female become active only hours after hatching and can lay up to 100 eggs per day.

The Benefits

Pathogens and Pests that grow in biofilms within your restaurant drain systems, are able to surface through unprotected Floor Drains and Sinks. Spreading with aerosol, foodborne and waterborne diseases like COVID-19, Listeria, and E-Coli, these pests and pathogens can turn your restaurant’s food-prep zones, food supplies and dining areas into health hazards.

How does restaurants benefit from the Green Drain™?

Drain flies feed on decomposing organic matter and sewage. Typical breeding sites include greasy drain pipes in kitchens and bathrooms, drains, moist compost, and septic tanks. Female drain flies deposit anywhere from 30 to 100 eggs per day on the surface of the breeding medium. The larvae and pupae thrive deep within the gelatinous film and extend breathing tubes to the surface. Drain fly eggs can mature to adults in 7 to 28 days.

Restaurant Sanitation & Health Risks

These same drains threaten your restaurant’s health and sanitation. With minor issues such as Foul Odors only causing damage to your reputation, more serious hazards like Toxic Gases and radon, are able to enter unnoticed and cause life threatening exposure.
